Securing the U-joint cap
Strap-style retention holds the U-joint cups in the yoke ears, so the strap and bolt set carries the load that would otherwise push a cup out. A 1350 big cup or 1410 pinion yoke sees high torque in heavy use, so the retention hardware needs to seat square and be tightened properly. Clean the yoke ear and cup surfaces before fitting.
Bolt centers and cap size control how the strap seats, so measure the cup bore and yoke ear spacing before tightening. Worn yokes can allow a cup to walk out of position under load, which shows as clunking when shifting. Replacing a worn joint and its straps together gives a cleaner fit than reusing old hardware.
