Shoe and lining replacement
Brake shoes and linings are the friction surface of a drum brake, so their condition sets how the brakes respond from the first press of the pedal. Lining that is glazed, cracked or worn unevenly reduces stopping power and can cause pulling. Because the shoes move together, replacing one side without the other can leave the brakes unbalanced.
Before fitting the new shoes, check the wheel cylinder, springs and adjuster, since a faulty part can wear new lining quickly. Bed the new lining gently and avoid hard stops until it is seated. Check whether the hardware needed for your installation is included before you start work.
