Key features

  • Rear oil pan seal for 4-piece oil pan gasket designs
  • Built for the 2.5L engine
  • Direct Fit fitment shown by the manufacturer
  • Part number 33004732 with UPC 848399011937

Replacing a rear pan seal

A rear oil pan seal usually leaks at the back edge where the pan meets the block and transmission housing. Oil can run down and collect near the bellhousing, so a wet spot there is often the first sign. Before replacing it, clean the mating surfaces thoroughly and check for warped flanges, because a seal cannot seal against a damaged surface.

Tighten pan bolts evenly and avoid overtightening, which can crush a gasket or distort the pan. Refill with fresh oil and run the engine to check for leaks at the rear of the pan once it has warmed up.

  • Clean the pan and block surfaces with a plastic scraper
  • Inspect the old seal for cracks or hardened sections
  • Torque the pan bolts in a crisscross pattern
  • Recheck for leaks after a short drive

Questions & Answers

Is this a full oil pan gasket set?

No. It is a rear oil pan seal for vehicles with a 4-piece oil pan gasket. Check the package contents against your installation before starting to see whether a complete gasket set is needed.

Which engine does the 33004732 seal fit?

It fits 2.5L engines. Fitment covers 1991-1993 Jeep Cherokee XJ Base, 1991-1992 Comanche Base and Pioneer, and 1991-1993 Wrangler YJ Base, Islander, S and Sahara models.

Will it fit a Cherokee XJ from 1994 or later?

No. It covers only 1991-1993 Cherokee XJ models, so later years are outside its fitment. Confirm fit for your vehicle's year, model and trim before ordering.

How can you tell the rear pan seal is leaking?

Look for oil residue on the back edge of the pan, along the bellhousing or on the transmission housing. Wet spots that return soon after cleaning usually point to the seal rather than the pan itself.

Should the rear main seal be checked too?

Often, yes. Oil seeping at the rear of the engine can come from the rear main seal instead of the pan seal. Inspect both before replacing a seal, since the repair access is similar.
