Before you install
A cowl weather seal works as a barrier at the seam where the hood meets the cowl. On a Wrangler YJ that seam sees rain, road spray and wind at speed, so a seal that has shrunk, cracked or pulled away lets water and dust into the cabin area. Checking the seal every few months is a simple habit, especially before wet seasons or long highway trips.
Peel and stick seals are fitted by cleaning the seam, removing the old seal and any residue, and pressing the new strip firmly along the mating edge. Clean and dry surfaces hold adhesive better. Replacing the seal alone is common, but if the cowl edge is rusted or bent, address that first so the new seal closes evenly.
