Description

Overview

The Rubicon Express JL7142 is a 3.5-inch standard coil lift kit for the 2018–2022 Jeep Wrangler (JL). The rear lift uses coil springs, and the control arms and other components remain in place.

It is a budget-minded suspension package designed for both road and trail use. The lift height range is 0 to 3.5 inches, so 3.5 inches is the top of that range. The kit is made for 37 inch tires, and the shocks are not included.

Key features

  • 3.5 inch standard lift
  • Rear coil spring lift method
  • Control arms and other components retained
  • Budget-minded package designed for on-road and trail use

Budget lifts and what to add

A budget coil spring lift is a practical way to add ground clearance and room for larger tires, but it leaves some parts for the owner to plan. Because the shocks are not included, the ride and damping depend on the shocks chosen. Pick shocks rated for the new ride height and spring rate, and keep the rest of the suspension in good condition so the lift performs as expected.

Before the install, check the brake lines, the driveline and the wiring for length at full droop. Plan for a wheel alignment after the lift and for tire clearance testing at full compression. Over time, look at the springs, the control arm bushings and the shock mounts for wear, since loose or worn parts can affect steering and stability.

  • Select shocks rated for the new height
  • Measure driveline angles after installation
  • Inspect control arm bushings periodically

Questions & Answers

What lift height does the Rubicon Express JL7142 provide?

Up to 3.5 inches. The kit's lift height range is 0 to 3.5 inches, and it is a standard coil lift for the rear of the Wrangler JL.

Are shocks included with the JL7142?

No. The kit does not include shocks, so plan on separate shocks for the install. Choose shocks suited to a 3.5-inch lift before you install the kit.

What tire size does the JL7142 suit?

37 inches. The kit is made for 37 inch tires, and the lift height range runs up to 3.5 inches.

Will this kit fit a 2019 Jeep Wrangler JL?

Yes. It fits 2018–2022 Wrangler JL models, so 2019 is included in both two-door and four-door body styles. Confirm fit for your vehicle's year, model and trim before ordering.

How do I know if the control arm bushings are worn?

Look for cracks, torn rubber and play in the control arm when the wheel is moved. Clunks over bumps or wandering on the highway can also point to worn bushings that need replacing.

Can a lift kit alone fix a rough ride?

Not always. Ride quality depends on the springs, shocks and bushings working together. If the ride is harsh or floaty, check the shocks and bushings before blaming the lift itself.
