Overview
The POP N lock PL2310 is a manual tailgate lock with a black plastic handle. It fits Ford F-150, F-250 and F-350 pickups, the Ford Ranger, and Mazda B-Series pickups in the years shown below.
The lock sits behind the tailgate handle and blocks anyone without the key from getting into the bed. The raised design is meant to make it easier to use and to reduce pinch risk, which fits trucks that carry a lockable tonneau cover.

Older trucks and plastic handles
Trucks from the late 1980s and 1990s often have tailgate hardware that has been exposed to decades of weather, so the lock mounting area deserves a careful look before installation. Surface rust, loose rivets and cracked plastic around the handle are signs that the surrounding structure may need attention first.
A plastic handle is lighter and less costly than metal, but it can become brittle with age and sun exposure. Pulling on a stiff or cracked handle repeatedly can stress the lock mount. Inspect the handle for hairline cracks and confirm the latch moves cleanly before and after installing the lock, and replace any worn bushings or springs that interfere with smooth operation.
