Replacing an XJ doorskin
On the XJ, the lower front door skin takes spray, road debris and moisture, so corrosion often starts at the bottom edge and seams. Before fitting, cut back to sound metal and treat any rust in the surrounding door frame. Compare the replacement carefully with the old panel so the trim lines and mounting holes can be transferred without forcing.
Primer finishes need topcoat protection once the panel is installed. Clean the fitting surfaces, use a light coat of seam sealer where edges meet, and check alignment with the door closed before final tightening. Keep the door in a dry area while the paint cures, and recheck the gap after the first few weeks of use to catch any settling.
