Overview
The Fox Racing Shox 985-24-130 is a rear Fox 2.0 PS Smooth IFP shock, sold individually, for three Jeep models: the 1986–1992 Jeep Comanche, the 1999–2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WJ) and the 1993–1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ). Choosing a rear shock setup
Rear shocks on older Jeep Grand Cherokee and Comanche models share the work of controlling axle movement and body roll on rough roads. The internal floating piston separates the oil from the nitrogen gas, which helps the shock keep consistent damping under repeated hard use. Measure the installed height first and confirm it falls within 1 to 2 inches, then compare the collapsed and extended lengths with your current shock before choosing a unit.
A travel figure without a unit is hard to compare, so compare length and stroke instead. Inspect the seals, shaft and mounting bushings at each service, and replace worn rear bushings together with the shock to keep the axle location tight. Because this shock is sold individually, plan for a second unit if the other side also needs replacing.
