Crank handle upkeep
A clip-on window crank handle takes daily use, so its grip and retaining clip gradually wear. Over time the handle can wobble on the shaft or slip while the window is being raised, which is a sign the clip has weakened or the spline has rounded. Small clips are easy to lose, so check them whenever the handle is off.
If a handle becomes loose, inspect the shaft spline on the regulator for rounded teeth or debris. Clean the spline and the inside of the handle, then seat the clip firmly. Replace the clip if it is bent or no longer grips, because a loose handle can cause the window to drop unevenly.
Keep the door interior dry and avoid forcing the crank when the glass is stuck. Frequent stiffness can point to a worn regulator, which is often replaced with the handle when the window will not move smoothly.
