Overview
The Crown Automotive J8127711 is a rear frame crossmember for the 1976–1983 Jeep CJ5, the 1976–1986 Jeep CJ7 and the 1981–1985 Jeep Scrambler. It is a rear position part, and it includes the crossmember itself.
Installation requires welding. The crossmember is supplied in bare steel, so it will need a protective finish after installation.

Preparing for a welded install
A crossmember that is welded in place carries load into the frame, so the frame metal around the mounting points has to be sound. Surface rust should be ground back to bright metal, and any thinned or cracked sections should be repaired before the new part is positioned. Disconnect the battery and protect the fuel tank, wiring and brake lines from weld spatter.
Tack the crossmember in place first and check alignment with the drivetrain before finishing the welds. Once the welds have cooled, apply a primer and a topcoat to the bare steel and the weld areas. Fresh coating now is much easier than correcting corrosion later, especially on a frame that sees mud and water.

Installation notes
Welding is required, and the crossmember ships without shock mounts or a pinion snubber bracket. Those parts have to be obtained separately if your installation uses them. Because the crossmember is bare steel, coat the welded and bare surfaces after installation.
