Wiring for a hardtop install
A hardtop wiring harness carries power and signals for the rear glass, interior lights and other accessories, and the body side plug is where that harness meets the body. Because it joins two sections, the most common trouble is a connector that has worked loose or picked up moisture. Before you connect anything, look at the pins for bends and check that the latch clicks fully.
Protect the connection after it is made. A small amount of dielectric grease on the contacts helps keep moisture out, and a loose boot or tape wrap should be secured so water does not run into the plug. Route the wiring away from sharp edges and moving latch areas, and recheck the connection after the first few trips with the top on.
- Test each circuit before closing the trim
- Keep the harness clear of pinch points
- Replace damaged pins rather than bending them back
