Description

Overview

The Jeep 82210215AG is a switch and wiring harness kit required when installing a Mopar hardtop onto a JK Wrangler. It includes the factory switches and wiring that operate the rear defroster and rear wiper on Mopar JK hardtops.

The harness is a direct plug-in, so no cutting or splicing is needed. It applies to 2 and 4-door models, and you can unplug it at the hardtop when you want to remove the top on nice days.

Key features

  • Factory switches and wiring for the rear defroster and rear wiper
  • Direct plug-in, no cutting or splicing
  • Unplug at the hardtop when removing it
  • Required when installing a Mopar hardtop onto a JK Wrangler

Working with a removable top

A removable hardtop changes how the rear of a Wrangler is wired. This harness carries power to the rear defroster and wiper, so the connection point matters each time the top comes off. A clean plug-in connector lets the hardtop lift away without loose wires hanging at the body.

Connectors need care. Keep the plug dry, seat it fully, and route the harness away from moving parts so it does not pull on the connector. Before lifting the hardtop, disconnect the battery, unplug the harness at the hardtop and tie the loose end back so it cannot snag on the frame.

Over time, wire insulation and rubber boots can dry out, especially where the harness flexes near the hinge area. Look for cracks, green corrosion on pins, or a switch that feels loose. Replacing a worn connector early is simpler than tracing a rear defroster fault later.

  • Seat the plug fully until it clicks
  • Keep the connector dry and free of grit
  • Inspect the harness where it flexes
  • Test defroster and wiper after each refit

Questions & Answers

Is this harness required for a JK Wrangler hardtop?

Yes. It is required when installing a Mopar hardtop onto a JK Wrangler and supplies the factory switches and wiring for the rear defroster and rear wiper.

Does it need cutting or splicing?

No. It is a direct plug-in harness, so no cutting or splicing is needed. The harness can be unplugged at the hardtop when you want to remove the top on nice days.

Which door models does it cover?

It covers 2 and 4-door models. Confirm fit for your vehicle's year, model and trim before ordering, since the JK year range is 2007 through 2018.

Should I use dielectric grease on the connector?

Many owners apply a light dielectric grease to the contacts to slow corrosion. Use a small amount, only on the terminals and seal, and wipe away any excess so it does not attract dirt.

How do I tell if the harness needs replacing?

Watch for a rear defroster or wiper that stops working, switches that feel loose, or wiring with cracked or melted insulation. Test the switches and inspect the plug before blaming the hardtop motor or fuse.
