Overview
The Crown Automotive 5252614 is a front caliper piston kit for Jeep Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and Wrangler models, including the 1990–2001 Cherokee, 1993–1998 Grand Cherokee and 1997–2006 Wrangler.
A caliper piston kit renews the piston that pushes the brake pad against the rotor. Compare the new parts with the old piston and seals before starting, so nothing is missed during the job. It is a direct fit for the front caliper, so the position is front only.

Caliper rebuild checklist
A caliper piston sits inside a bore and is sealed by a rubber ring that keeps fluid in and dirt out. When the seal wears or the bore corrodes, the piston can stick or drag, causing uneven pad wear and heat at the rotor. Replacing the piston is most effective when the bore is clean and free of pitting.
Slide pins and boots are often inspected during the same job, since a seized pin can cause the same uneven wear as a stuck piston. Clean the pins, check their boots and apply the proper brake grease where specified. Use fresh brake fluid when bleeding, and do not reuse fluid that has been drawn from the system.
- Inspect the bore for scoring or corrosion
- Check slide pins and their boots
- Use fresh brake fluid when bleeding

Vehicle fitment
It is a direct fit for the 1990–2001 Jeep Cherokee, the 1993–1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Jeep Wrangler in 1990–1995, 1997–2006 and 2004–2006. The three Wrangler ranges overlap, covering the 1990–1995 YJ, the 1997–2006 TJ and the 2004–2006 LJ, so Wrangler owners from three generations can use it.
The 1999 and newer Grand Cherokee and the 2007 and newer Wrangler are not covered. This kit is for the front caliper only. Check your vehicle’s year, model and trim before ordering.
Installation notes
Replacing a caliper piston opens the brake hydraulics, so the system needs bleeding afterward. Confirm what the kit contains before starting, and check the caliper bore for scoring or pitting. Keep the bore and new parts free of dirt and oil during assembly.
