Key features
- Dana 44 front or rear
- Pinion washer for direct fit
- Fits a long range of Jeep models
Pinion nut and preload
The pinion washer sits behind the pinion nut and helps set the position of the pinion within the Dana 44 housing. Pinion preload controls how the pinion bearings run, and it must be set correctly for the gears to last. Because preload is adjusted during gear setup, the washer is only one part of a larger assembly.
Whenever the pinion nut is removed, inspect the washer for flattening, grooves or corrosion, and replace it if the surface is damaged. Keep the washer clean and flat when fitting it, and avoid reusing one that has been compressed by a previous installation. A fresh washer plus a careful setup helps keep the gear mesh stable on the trail.
- Inspect the washer each time the pinion nut comes off
- Keep the washer clean and flat when fitting
- Have preload and gear setup checked by a professional
