Description

Overview

The Smittybilt 76653 XRC is a black rear bumper with a built-in Class III receiver hitch, for 2004–2006 Jeep Wrangler (LJ) Unlimited and Unlimited Rubicon models, 1997–2006 Wrangler (TJ) models and 1987–1995 Wrangler (YJ) models.

The bumper is made from 3/16-inch cold rolled steel with a black powder coat. Two solid D-ring mounts are welded inside and outside. It is designed to accept Smittybilt’s swing-away tire carrier, part 76654, which can be added at any time.

Key features

  • Built-in Class III receiver hitch
  • Two solid D-ring mounts welded inside and out
  • 3/16-inch cold rolled steel
  • Black powder coat finish
  • Designed to accept the swing-away tire carrier, part 76654

Adding a tire carrier later

A rear bumper with a receiver is a natural place for a swing-away tire carrier, since the spare moves out of the way when the rear hatch or tailgate needs to open. Carriers add weight behind the axle, so think about how heavy the spare and any gear will be. Check that the hitch and bumper ratings cover the combined load before adding a carrier to the receiver.

Mounting a carrier also changes the rear of the truck. The plate and lights may need to move, and the carrier must clear the rear door or tailgate through its full swing. Once it is installed, check the bolts after the first few drives and make sure the swing arm locks firmly in both positions.

  • Weigh the spare and gear before choosing a carrier
  • Confirm the carrier clears the tailgate through its swing
  • Check the swing arm lock after the first few drives

Questions & Answers

Does the 76653 come with a tire carrier?

No. The bumper is bumper only. The swing-away tire carrier, part 76654, is a separate part that can be added at any time.

Is the receiver a Class III hitch?

Yes. The bumper has a built-in Class III receiver hitch, and Smittybilt says two solid D-ring mounts are welded on the inside and outside for maximum strength.

Does it fit a 1990 Jeep Wrangler YJ?

Yes, the bumper covers 1987–1995 Wrangler (YJ) models, so a 1990 model is within that range. Confirm the year and model on your truck before installing this bumper.

Will a swing-away tire carrier affect the license plate?

It can, because the plate often moves to the carrier. Check the plate position and lighting before driving, and confirm the plate stays visible and the lights are not blocked.
