Overview
The Smittybilt 87710S is a 98 ft. synthetic hookless winch rope in gray, measuring 3/8 in. in diameter. Smittybilt designed the rope to replace a standard winch line with one that has no weighted hook on its end.
Without a weighted hook, nothing heavy moves along the end of the line if the rope breaks. The rope can be anchored to a roll cage or step directly, with no shackle or D-ring needed.
Key features
- No weighted hook at the end of the rope
- Can be anchored to roll cages or steps
- 98 ft. length, 3/8 in. diameter
- Gray color
Anchoring and handling the rope
Choosing an anchor point is the most important step with a hookless rope. Use a solid, well-braced point such as a roll cage tube or a frame-mounted step, and wrap the rope around it at least once so the load is spread. Avoid anchoring to thin trim, plastic panels or any point that moves when loaded. Pad the anchor where the rope bends, since a sharp corner can cut the fibers over time.
Keep bystanders well clear while the line is under load, and never stand in line with the rope. Coil the rope neatly after each recovery so it does not kink, and keep it out of mud and direct sun when stored. Check the rope before each use for cut strands and worn spots near the anchor end, and replace it if damage is found.
- Anchor only to solid, well-braced points
- Pad any corner where the rope bends
- Keep people out of the rope’s path

Installation notes
Anchor the rope to a roll cage or step with a secure, strong point, and keep the rope clear of sharp edges during loading. Check the rope for wear before each recovery.
What’s included
The hookless winch rope is sold as the single item. Shackles, D-rings and other attachments aren’t included, because the rope is designed to anchor without them.
