Description

Overview

The Power Stop Z36-756 front brake pads are Z36 Truck and Tow disc brake pads for 1999–2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty, F-350 Super Duty and Excursion.

Towing and hauling keep the brakes under sustained load, and the heat from that work is what leads to brake fade. The Z36 coefficient of friction is 17 percent higher than OE pads.

Key features

  • Carbon and ceramic friction formula
  • Thermal scorched finish
  • Chamfered and slotted like the OE pads
  • Powdercoated backing plate
  • Noise insulating shims
  • Hi-temp lubricant included
  • Direct fit with the stock caliper, front position

Towing and brake fade

Heavy-duty trucks and Excursions pulling trailers hold speed on grades that ask a lot of the front brakes. Brake fade happens when the pads and rotors get hot enough that friction drops, and it can build over a long descent without any warning. Pad compound is one defense, along with sensible gear selection and regular inspection of the front brakes.

Check the front rotors for heat spots, blue discoloration and grooves, and measure thickness against the minimum stamped on the rotor. Replace the rotors when they are below that figure, since thin rotors can flex and cause pulsation. Rotor hats and wheel hub surfaces should be clean before the new pads are fitted. Finish with a few firm stops in a clear area to seat the pads before driving under load.

Questions & Answers

Which vehicles does the Power Stop Z36-756 fit?

The Z36-756 front pads fit 1999–2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty, F-350 Super Duty and Excursion. Confirm the model year on your truck falls inside this list.

Is the Z36-756 a front or rear brake pad?

Front. The Z36-756 is a front-position pad that installs on the stock caliper and is sold as a direct-fit upgrade for the front axle.

Can the Z36-756 pads handle trailer towing?

Power Stop offers the Z36-756 as part of the Z36 Truck and Tow range, meant for trucks and SUVs with higher gross vehicle weights. The Z36-756 pad bite is intended to help avoid high temperature brake fade.

What is brake fade and how can it be reduced?

Brake fade is a loss of stopping power when the pads and rotors overheat, often on long descents. Friction compounds designed for heat help, but spacing out heavy braking, using engine braking and keeping rotors in good condition also reduce it.
