Replacing a bypass hose
A bypass hose carries coolant between the heater circuit and the engine’s cooling system, so a leak or a collapsed section can reduce heater output and cause coolant loss. Because the hose is part of a closed loop, replacement is best done when the system is cool and drained to a level below the hose.
Check the old hose’s ends, bends and clamp seats before buying a new one, and note any cracks or swelling. When fitting the replacement, make sure it sits without tension, and replace the clamps if they are corroded or distorted. After filling and bleeding the system, check for seepage at both ends and the tee connections.
