Overview
The G2 Axle and Gear 25-2044A is a ring and pinion installation kit for a Toyota 9.5-inch LC FJ80 axle with an open differential. The kit collects the pinion nut, pinion seal, crush sleeve, shims and ring gear bolts with setup compounds for a gear install.
Open differential considerations
An open differential sends torque to whichever wheel has the least grip, so a wheel in the air or on loose ground can spin while the other stands still. That behavior is normal for an open carrier. When the gear set is replaced, the setup should be checked under load to confirm the teeth run quietly and the pattern is centered.
Because the carrier is open for a gear install, it is a good time to inspect the side gears, spider gears and thrust washers for wear. Worn spider gears or side gears can allow excessive play and noise. Replacing the carrier bearings, pinion bearings and axle seals at the same time keeps the rebuild consistent. Check the differential cover gasket and fill the housing with the gear oil the axle requires once the rebuild is finished.
