Rear wheel cylinder service
Rear wheel cylinders push the shoes against the drum when the brakes are applied, and they work with the parking brake linkage on many drum setups. Fluid that seeps past the piston seal or the boot will wet the shoes and drum, and that contamination can reduce braking force. Replace the cylinder when fluid appears, or when the pistons stick and the shoes drag.
Because the left and right cylinders are separate parts, match the position carefully and avoid swapping sides. Pull the drum to check for leaks and inspect the shoes before fitting new cylinders, and bleed the system after the hose connection is made. Test the brakes at low speed before driving normally.
