Overview

Pressure line on older CJs
On older CJs, the pressure line runs from the pump to the steering gear and is one of the first hoses to show age. Heat from the engine bay, road grime and flexing at the ends can all wear the hose wall. Because the line carries high-pressure fluid whenever the steering is used, a small seep can become a drip quickly.
When replacing the line, compare its length, bend and fitting ends with the old hose, and route the new one clear of the exhaust, linkage and moving suspension parts. Check the pump and reservoir fluid level after the new line is fitted, and run the engine with the steering turned lock to lock to look for leaks before driving.
