Lock cylinder service
A door lock cylinder works with the door latch and handle linkage, so a stiff lock is not always the cylinder’s fault. Check that the latch moves freely and the handle returns properly before replacing the cylinder. A worn key or a bent linkage rod can mimic cylinder failure and waste time.
When fitting a new cylinder, keep the retaining clip and the lock rod alignment in view. Insert the key and turn it gently to confirm the rod moves through its full travel before reassembling the door trim. Lubricate lightly with a dry graphite product rather than heavy oil, which can attract dirt and gum up the pins over time.
