Input seal care and replacement
On the Dana 300, the input shaft seal is one of the first places to check when lubricant appears at the front of the transfer case. The seal rides on the input shaft, so wear often shows as a thin film that gradually collects on the bellhousing face. Catching it early keeps the fluid level from dropping during a trail day.
Installation is simpler when the shaft surface is sound. Clean the bore, remove old sealant, and press the new seal in evenly so the lip does not fold. Refill to the correct level and check for seepage after a short drive.
