Description

Overview

The Power Stop Z36-792 rear brake pads are Z36 Truck and Tow disc brake pads for 1999–2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban 1500, Yukon XL 1500 and Avalanche 1500.

The Z36 line is meant for trucks and SUVs that run at higher gross vehicle weights, such as rigs that tow or carry heavy loads. Compared with OE pads, Power Stop reports a 17 percent higher coefficient of friction for this compound.

Key features

  • Carbon and ceramic friction formula
  • Thermal scorched finish
  • Chamfered and slotted like the OE pads
  • Powdercoated backing plate
  • Noise insulating shims
  • Hi-temp lubricant included
  • Direct fit with the stock caliper, rear position

Trailer work and rear pads

Trucks and SUVs that tow or carry heavy loads ask more of the rear brakes on the way down a grade. Pad compound matters here, because sustained braking builds heat faster than brief stops do. A rear pad formulated for heavier duty can help the braking system stay consistent when the load is up.

When fitting new rear pads, check the rotor surface and thickness before reassembly. Scoring or heat checks will wear new material quickly. Clean the caliper bracket, lubricate the contact points where the pad backing plate rests, and test the pedal before driving. Rotors and calipers are sold separately, so inspect them as part of the job.

  • Measure rotor thickness before reinstalling
  • Use the supplied shims on the backing plates
  • Test the pedal in a parking lot before towing

Questions & Answers

Which vehicles does the Power Stop Z36-792 fit?

The Z36-792 rear pads fit 1999–2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban 1500, Yukon XL 1500 and Avalanche 1500. Confirm fit for your vehicle's year, model and trim before ordering.

Is the Z36-792 a front or rear brake pad?

Rear. The Z36-792 is a rear-position pad made to work with the stock caliper. Being a direct-fit upgrade, it is installed without changing the caliper or its bracket.

Can the Z36-792 pads handle trailer towing?

Power Stop offers the Z36-792 as part of the Z36 Truck and Tow range, meant for trucks and SUVs with higher gross vehicle weights. The Z36-792 pad bite is intended to help avoid high temperature brake fade.

Should rotors be replaced when rear pads change?

Often, yes. Inspect the rotor for scoring, heat checks and thickness below the minimum stamped on it. If the rotor is worn, replace it with the pads so new friction material is not wearing against a damaged surface.
