Overview
The Power Stop Z36-785 rear brake pads are Z36 Truck and Tow disc brake pads for 1999–2013 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, Avalanche, Cadillac Escalade and Hummer H2.
Z36 pads suit vehicles working at higher gross vehicle weights, and the strong pad bite helps avoid high temperature brake fade. The Z36 compound has 17 percent more friction than OE pads.
Key features
- Carbon and ceramic friction formula
- Thermal scorched finish
- Chamfered and slotted like the OE pads
- Powdercoated backing plate
- Noise insulating shims
- Hi-temp lubricant included
- Direct fit with the stock caliper, rear position
Rear axle pad service
Rear pads on a full-size truck carry less load than the fronts on most stops, yet they still do real work on a heavy vehicle and when towing. Rear brake fade can build on long descents when the rear axle is doing a share of the stopping, so the pad material matters on loaded trips. Many trucks also use the rear calipers for the parking brake, so check that the mechanism moves freely after service.
Clean and lubricate the caliper slide pins with the supplied hi-temp grease so the pads move freely. Sticking slides cause uneven pad wear and drag, which shows up as heat and a pull under braking. Rotors and calipers are sold separately, so inspect them while the wheel is off.
- Look for uneven wear across the pad faces
- Check the parking brake after installation
- Replace pads on both sides of the same axle
