Overview
The Power Stop Z36-784 front brake pads are Z36 Truck and Tow disc brake pads for 1999–2013 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Suburban 2500, Yukon XL 2500, Avalanche 2500 and Hummer H2.
Hill driving, trailer towing and loaded trucks are the intended use for the Z36, an upgrade over standard pads. Its compound has a coefficient of friction 17 percent higher than OE pads.
Key features
- Carbon and ceramic friction formula
- Thermal scorched finish
- Chamfered and slotted like the OE pads
- Powdercoated backing plate
- Noise insulating shims
- Hi-temp lubricant included

Towing and hill loads
Pads that handle towing and mountain descents work hard in a different way than daily-driver pads. Long grades and loaded beds push the friction material and rotor past their comfortable range, so the pad’s ability to hold steady under heat matters as much as its initial bite. Drivers who tow regularly should check pad thickness at every rotor service, since heavy loads wear material faster than light commuting.
When the old pads come off, look at the rotor face for grooves, blue discoloration or a lip at the outer edge. Replacing pads on a worn rotor shortens pad life and can cause pulsation. Rotors and calipers are sold separately, so inspect them while the wheels are off and replace any part that is out of spec.
- Check pad thickness at each rotor service
- Inspect rotor faces for grooves and blue spots
- Bed in new pads with moderate stops before towing
