Break-in and towing
Full-size GM trucks and SUVs are often used for towing, hauling and mountain driving, so brake pads on these vehicles see heavy use. A carbon and ceramic pad is generally chosen for quieter operation and lower dust, while still being suited to heavy loads. The front pads take the bulk of the braking, so their condition affects how the whole vehicle stops.
Once new pads are fitted, bed them in before towing. Several moderate stops from moderate speed let the material transfer evenly onto the rotor. Afterward, check rotor surfaces for uneven marks, and confirm the caliper slide pins move freely so the pads wear evenly. Brake fluid condition also matters on long descents, so check it at the same visit.

Silverado and Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD pickups are not on this list, and neither are pre-2007 half-ton trucks. Confirm your vehicle’s year, model and trim before ordering.
Installation notes
