Key features

  • Direct OE replacement built to original specifications
  • Thermostat gasket for the 134L L-head 4 cylinder engine
  • Limited five year warranty
  • Fitment spans Willys CJ, truck, panel and sedan delivery models

Before fitting an L-head gasket

A thermostat gasket on a 134L L-head engine seals the thermostat housing to the engine, so the sealing faces need to be flat and free of old material. Flathead-era housings can be pitted or warped from years of heat, and a new gasket cannot correct a distorted face. Check the mating surfaces with a straightedge before assembly.

Thermostat orientation matters as much as the gasket. Confirm the thermostat seats correctly in its bore and that the housing bolts are snug without being overtightened. Drain enough coolant to work safely, and refill slowly afterward so air does not collect around the thermostat.

  • Clean old gasket residue from both faces
  • Use a straightedge on the housing face
  • Confirm thermostat seating before bolting up
  • Refill slowly to avoid trapped air

Questions & Answers

Is the Omix-ADA 17117.01 a direct fit thermostat gasket?

Yes. It is a direct OE replacement built to Omix-ADA original specifications and is direct fit for a 4 cylinder engine. Check your engine and year before fitting.

Which Willys models fit part 17117.01?

It fits 1942 to 1953 Willys MA, MB, CJ-2, CJ-3, FJ, Jeepster, Panel, Sedan Delivery, Truck and 1-Ton models, plus the 463 and 473. Confirm fit for your vehicle's year, model and trim before ordering.

Does this gasket fit a later CJ-5?

No. Fit covers 1942 to 1953 Willys models only, with no CJ-5 applications. Confirm fit for your vehicle's year, model and trim before ordering.

Can a warped housing still be sealed with a new gasket?

Sometimes, but not reliably. A warped or pitted housing face can leak even with a new gasket, so flatten or replace the housing when the damage is visible. Clean the contact faces thoroughly before installing the gasket.
