Replacing a door seal
A door belt weather strip runs along the top edge of the door frame and seals the glass against water and wind noise. Over time the rubber can flatten, crack or tear at the corners, which leads to whistling at speed and water on the door sill. Before replacing it, remove the old strip carefully and clean the channel so the new seal sits in place without gaps.
Use soapy water or a rubber-safe lubricant to help the new seal slide into the channel, and work from the center outward so the strip does not bunch. Trim only where the job calls for it. Check that the seal is pressed fully into the channel at each corner before closing the door.
