Description

Overview

The Crown Automotive Soft Top Door Seal, part number J5458874, is the passenger side upper seal for a full door on factory soft tops. It screws to the side of the windshield frame and is made for the factory soft top hardware on Jeep CJ5, CJ7 and Scrambler models.

This seal is a passenger side part, so a driver side seal is a separate item.

Key features

  • Passenger side seal for the upper location of a full door
  • Designed for factory soft top hardware
  • Screws to the side of the windshield frame
  • Replacement seal for listed CJ5, CJ7 and Scrambler soft tops

Frame and seal condition

A door seal does its job at the joint between the soft top and the windshield frame, where wind and water try to get in. Before fitting, check the frame side for rust, bent edges and old sealant so the new seal sits flat. A flattened or bent frame edge will leave a gap no matter how good the seal is.

Older CJ soft tops rely on the seal to keep the upper door area tight at speed. Rubber and vinyl seal material stiffens and cracks with age, especially where it is exposed to sun. When the seal is replaced, inspect the matching driver side seal too, since it sees the same weather.

  • Clean the frame edge and remove old sealant before mounting
  • Test-fit the seal before tightening the screws
  • Check the upper door frame for corrosion while the top is off

Questions & Answers

Is this Crown door seal for the driver side or passenger side?

It is the passenger side seal for the upper location of a full door. A driver side seal is a separate item and is not included, so order one if you need both sides.

Which Jeep models does the door seal J5458874 fit?

It fits 1976–1983 Jeep CJ5, 1976–1986 Jeep CJ7 and 1981–1985 Jeep Scrambler models in their named trims. Wrangler and other models do not fit this seal, so confirm fit for your vehicle's year, model and trim before ordering.

Does the seal come with mounting screws?

Check the package contents against your installation before starting. The seal screws to the side of the windshield frame and is made for factory soft top hardware, so have that hardware on hand.

How do I tell when a CJ door seal needs replacing?

Look for cracks, flattening, or sections that no longer touch the windshield frame when the top is closed. Wind noise and water near the upper door area are also signs the seal is worn and no longer sealing properly.

Should the windshield frame be checked before fitting a new seal?

Yes. Look for rust, bends, or loose attachment points where the seal screws in. A seal cannot seal well against a damaged frame, so repair or straighten the frame first if needed.
