Linkage geometry and rod wear
The clutch pedal rod carries pedal motion to the bellcrank, so its ends and the pivot holes around them determine how precisely the clutch releases. Bent rods, worn clevis ends and loose clips all add slop between the pedal and the release mechanism. Because the rod is a simple piece, the usual fault is wear at the joints rather than the rod itself.
Check each end for play by moving the rod by hand with the pedal released. Look for bright wear marks on the clevis and cotter pins that have come out of position. Replacing a worn rod is simpler when the bellcrank bushing and pedal pivot are inspected at the same time, so the linkage stays aligned.
