Stock pan replacement tips
A stock-style pan seals against the transmission case with a gasket, so the surfaces need to be clean and flat before the new pan goes on. Scrape old gasket material gently and check the case rail for nicks that could cause a leak. A fresh gasket is a small cost compared with redoing the job after a seep appears.
Replacing a pan is also a good time to look at the magnet, the screen and the fluid. Debris in the pan can point to internal wear, while a clean pan with light fluid suggests the leak came from the seal or gasket alone. Refill to the correct level and recheck it once the transmission is warm.
