Overview
The G2 Axle and Gear 4-XJ5-410M is a 4.10 ratio front and rear ring and pinion set with minor installation kits for the Jeep Cherokee XJ, covering a Dana 30 front axle and a Chrysler 8.25 rear axle. The kit contains the front and rear gear sets plus minor installation kits for both axles.
The XJ Cherokee was built from 1984 to 2001. G2 positions its ring and pinion sets as engineered for oversized tires and high performance engines, and this 4.10 kit lets an XJ owner swap both ends with one part number.
Key features
- 4.10 ratio gear sets for front and rear
- Dana 30 front and Chrysler 8.25 rear, per the title
- Minor installation kits for both axles
- Labeled for the Cherokee XJ
- Complete swap in one part number
Mixed axle setups
A Cherokee XJ with a Dana 30 front and a Chrysler 8.25 rear is a mixed setup, so the two differentials are different designs with different carrier shapes and setup procedures. Gears are matched to each axle, not swapped between them, so the front and rear parts each need their own check during the work.
Owners of older Jeeps often inspect the axle shafts, U-joints and wheel bearings alongside a gear change, since driveline loads move when the ratio changes. Keep track of which parts came from which axle, and clean each housing before reassembly so no debris reaches the new gears.
- Label parts by axle location
- Check the axle shaft splines for wear
- Inspect the U-joints before reinstalling the driveshaft
- Use a new pinion seal on each axle

Vehicle fitment
The title of the 4-XJ5-410M names the XJ, the Cherokee built from 1984 to 2001. G2 provides no separate vehicle list, so the fitment follows the chassis code and the axle pairing in the title.
The 4-XJ5-410M does not cover the Wrangler or Grand Cherokee, or an XJ with other axles. Confirm your vehicle’s year, model and trim, and your axles, before ordering.
Installation notes
Both differentials need pinion depth, preload and backlash set with the shims and parts in the two minor installation kits. Since a minor kit reuses the bearings, check them before reassembly, and plan on a trained installer for the Cherokee swap. The two axles differ, a Dana 30 in front and a Chrysler 8.25 in the rear, so each gets its own setup. Fresh gear oil goes in both differentials afterward.
