Before installing a body lift
A body lift sits between the body and the frame, so it raises the cab and bed without changing the suspension or axle geometry. Wiring, fuel lines, brake lines and shifter or transfer case linkages may need more length to reach their original points, so check their routing once the body is raised. Reusing the factory body mounts with spacers is common, and their bolts should be retorqued after the first few drives.
Steering extensions alter the relationship between the steering box and the front wheels, so check centering and free play after the kit goes on. Front and rear bumper brackets are where a lift most often affects mounting points, so inspect them for cracks and clearance. Old hardware that shows stretching or rust should be replaced rather than reused. Plan a short test drive on low-speed roads to listen for rubbing or clunks before heading out on longer trips.
