The PSC Steering remote-fill power steering pump and remote reservoir kit PK1490 (PSMPK1490) is a complete Saginaw P-Series pump and remote reservoir kit for 1994-2002 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 Cummins applications.
PSC highly recommends it for any project that installs PSC Cylinder Assist Steering or a Full Hydraulic Steering Kit. PSC recommends SWEPCO 715 power steering fluid for all full hydraulic systems, and advises a fluid cooler on vehicles with high-performance steering components to prevent pump damage.
The Saginaw P-Series pump is the type PSC pairs with its Cylinder Assist and Full Hydraulic Steering systems, and the remote reservoir gives the system extra fluid capacity.

Full hydraulic steering setup
Full hydraulic and cylinder assist steering place a heavier demand on the pump than a stock setup, because the pump supplies fluid to the steering cylinder as well as the gear. A remote reservoir supports that demand by keeping a steady supply available. Pumps used in these systems are typically checked more often for fluid level and temperature.
Heat builds up faster when the system works hard, so fluid condition and cooling deserve attention. Old or contaminated fluid loses its protective properties, and a dirty reservoir can carry debris into the pump. Flushing the system and replacing filters during the upgrade reduces the chance of early wear.
