Description

Overview

The Power Stop Z36-1399 front brake pads are Z36 Truck and Tow disc brake pads for 2009–2018 Dodge Ram and Ram 2500 and 3500.

Sustained braking while towing or hauling builds heat in the pads, which can lead to brake fade. The Z36 compound has a coefficient of friction 17 percent higher than OE pads, which gives extra bite under those loads.

Key features

  • Carbon and ceramic friction formula
  • Thermal scorched finish
  • Chamfered and slotted like the OE pads
  • Powdercoated backing plate
  • Noise insulating shims
  • Hi-temp lubricant included
  • Direct fit with the stock caliper, front position

Pads for heavy towing loads

Sustained braking on a long grade puts far more heat into the pads and rotors than short city stops do. As that heat builds, friction can drop, which is why brake fade is the main concern for heavy trucks that tow. A pad formulated for higher friction and better heat tolerance helps keep pedal feel steady when the load is heavy and the descent is long.

Pad choice works best as part of a matched system. Rotors should be in good condition and the calipers should slide freely, because a sticking caliper can overheat a new pad. Consider trailer weight, typical grades and how often the truck runs loaded before choosing, and plan on new pads once the friction material wears down to its wear indicator or becomes thin.

  • Check rotor thickness and runout before fitting new pads
  • Confirm caliper slides move freely
  • Bed new pads in with moderate stops

Questions & Answers

Which vehicles does the Power Stop Z36-1399 fit?

The Z36-1399 front pads fit 2009–2018 Dodge Ram and Ram 2500 and 3500. Confirm fit for your vehicle's year, model and trim before ordering.

Is the Z36-1399 a front or rear brake pad?

Front. The Z36-1399 is a front-position pad made to work with the stock caliper, and it is a direct-fit upgrade.

What are the Z36-1399 brake pads made of?

The Z36-1399 uses a carbon and ceramic formula with a powdercoated backing plate and noise insulating shims. It also has a thermal scorched finish and chamfered, slotted pad faces like OE pads.

How often should towing pads be inspected?

Inspect them at every tire rotation or brake service, looking at thickness, glazing and scoring on the friction surface. Uneven wear or a pulsing pedal usually points to a rotor or caliper problem that needs attention before the next long tow.
