Overview
The Energy Suspension 1.2101G is a black rear leaf spring bushing set made for leaf springs that run OEM shackles. Its polyurethane bushings take the place of the original rubber at the spring eyes and shackle points.
The design is meant to improve handling in turns, during standing starts, under braking, and over bumps and berms. The bushings also suit lighter-duty leaf spring systems.
Key features
- Designed for rear leaf springs with OEM shackles
- Polyurethane in place of worn rubber
- Control during standing starts, braking and over bumps, per the maker
- Non-greaseable design
- Black finish
How leaf spring bushings wear
Leaf spring bushings sit at the spring eyes and shackle points, where the spring flexes and the shackle pivots. Over time the rubber or polyurethane compresses, cracks, or wears, and the axle can move more than it should. A loose bushing often shows up as clunking over bumps, wandering on uneven roads, or uneven movement at the spring ends.
Polyurethane is firmer than rubber, so it transfers more road feel and can make the ride noticeably firmer. Shackles, spring pins and eye hardware are usually inspected at the same time, since worn hardware can wear new bushings quickly.
- Check for cracking or flattened sections at each spring eye
- Look for play in the shackle when the vehicle is lifted safely
- Inspect spring pins and shackle bolts for wear
