Understanding strap retainers
A strap style retainer holds the yoke to the pinion with a strap and bolts rather than the U-bolt clamp found on other yokes. The strap must sit flat and the bolts must be tightened in an even pattern, or the yoke can move on the pinion splines. Check the pinion threads and the yoke bore for damage before the new yoke goes on.
Because fit here is by axle type, the axle type and U-joint series matter more than the vehicle. On Dana 30 and Dana 44 axles, use the same retainer style as the existing yoke so the seal and bearing preload stay correct after reassembly. Replace the pinion seal and check the bearing preload when the yoke is replaced.
