- Thermal fan clutch design
- Made for AMC 6 or 8 cylinder engines
- It is made for setups without a serpentine belt.
- It is a direct-fit part.
Fan clutch operation
A thermal fan clutch lets the fan spin at a speed that matches engine temperature. When the air passing through the core is cool, the clutch slips and the fan turns more slowly, and as the engine heats up the clutch engages and the fan works harder. This saves power and noise at low temperatures while keeping the engine cool under load.
Fan clutches wear over time, and a worn unit may engage too early, too late, or not at all. Check for play at the fan hub with the engine off, and look for oil leaks or a bent fan blade. When replacing, keep hands and clothing clear of the fan and confirm clearance around the shroud before running the engine.
