A sealed beam keeps the reflector, lens and filament in one sealed unit, so the whole headlamp is replaced when one part fails. That makes the beam pattern consistent from the start, but it also means a failed filament costs more than a standard bulb swap. Look at the lens for dark spots, moisture or fogging before deciding whether the unit is the problem.
After fitting a new sealed beam, check the aim on a level surface against a wall. A misaimed beam can blind oncoming drivers or light the road poorly. Clean the lens and the bezel before installing, and make sure the ground connection is tight, since a weak ground can cause dimming that looks like a failing headlamp.
