Before rebuilding a CV joint
A CV joint lets the drive shaft run through changing angles while it carries power to the wheels. When the boot splits, grease escapes and dirt gets in, and the joint wears quickly. Clicking on turns, vibration under acceleration, or grease spatter inside the wheel are common signs the boot or joint needs attention.
Rebuilding one end of a shaft often means checking the other joint and the shaft itself, since dirt that reaches one boot may already be in the other. Clean the joint thoroughly before assembly and pack it with the grease supplied, not a substitute. Boots that were installed too tight or cut during fitting will split again, so seat the clamps carefully.
- Check both ends of the shaft for play
- Inspect the splines and seal areas for wear

- Replace clamps rather than reusing them
