Installing and checking tie rods
Tie rods carry steering loads from the rack to the knuckles, so the joint ends matter as much as the tube itself. The barrel-style design keeps the factory clevis in place, which means the existing joint hardware is still doing part of the work. Check that the clevis threads and jam nuts are in good condition before reassembly.
Aluminum tie rods are light, but they can show scratches or gouges from rocks. Inspect the hard anodized finish after trail use for chips that could allow corrosion, and check that the radius rods move freely without binding through full steering travel.
Alignment is usually checked after tie rod work, since toe changes when rod length changes. Plan a careful measurement or a shop visit after the install.
