Before you install
Air springs support the rear of the truck when it carries or pulls a heavy load, so their effect depends on how the load is distributed and how the pressure is set. Before installing, check that the bags, lines and fittings clear the frame, axle and brake lines throughout the full range of suspension travel. Keep a pressure gauge on hand, and fill the bags only to the level needed for the current load.
Air bags work best with a suspension that is in good shape. Worn shocks, tired leaf packs and worn bushings can keep the springs from performing as intended, so inspect them at the same time. Check the bags periodically for cracks, chafing or bulges, and watch for a truck that settles overnight, which often points to a slow leak at a fitting or valve. Retighten mounting hardware after the first few drives.
