Description

Overview

The Power Stop Z36-1709 front brake pads are severe-duty Z36 Truck and Tow disc pads for the 2014–2015 Jeep Cherokee (XL).

Power Stop built the Z36 for owners who tow or drive down hills and want extra stopping power from a thermally stable compound. The coefficient of friction is 17 percent higher than OE pads, and the formula is a carbon fiber infused Evolution ceramic.

Key features

  • Severe-duty front brake pads for extra stopping power
  • Thermally stable compound for towing and driving down hills
  • Carbon fiber infused Evolution ceramic formula
  • Powdercoated backing plate that Power Stop says resists rust and corrosion
  • Noise insulating shims for what Power Stop calls virtually noise-free braking
  • Premium stainless steel brake pad hardware kit included

Cherokee front brake considerations

Front brakes do most of the stopping on a Cherokee, and they run hottest when the vehicle is pulling a trailer or descending hills. A thermally stable compound is designed to keep friction steady as temperatures rise. Pads with a higher friction level can stop sooner, but they also place more force on the rotors, so the rotors should be inspected at the same service.

Clean the caliper bracket and slide surfaces before fitting new pads, and make sure the pad hardware moves freely. Bed in the new pads with a series of moderate stops before any heavy towing. Listen for squealing or grinding in the first few miles, which can point to misalignment or contaminated friction surfaces.

  • Replace front pads on both sides together
  • Inspect the hardware clips when changing pads
  • Check the brake fluid level at routine service

Vehicle fitment

The Z36-1709 front pads fit the 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee (XL), in Latitude, Limited, Sport and Trailhawk trims.

The older Cherokee (XJ) and other Cherokee model years are not on this list, and the rear brakes need a different pad. Confirm your vehicle’s year, model and trim before ordering.

Installation notes

With a stainless steel hardware kit in the box, the pad hardware can be refreshed during the same front brake job.

Questions & Answers

Will the Power Stop Z36-1709 fit a 2014 Jeep Cherokee?

Yes. The Z36-1709 fits the 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee (XL), in Latitude, Limited, Sport and Trailhawk trims. These are front pads, so they do not fit the rear brakes.

What hardware comes with the Z36-1709 brake pads?

The Z36-1709 comes with a premium stainless steel brake pad hardware kit and noise insulating shims. The stainless hardware is a good match for refreshing the pad hardware during the same front brake job.

What is the Z36-1709 pad compound?

The Z36-1709 uses a carbon fiber infused Evolution ceramic formula on a powdercoated backing plate. The compound is thermally stable, which suits towing and driving down hills.

Do front pads need new hardware each time?

Not always, but the hardware should be inspected each time the pads change. Corroded or distorted clips and shims can cause noise or uneven wear. Cleaning and lubricating the hardware during the same job keeps pad movement free and helps the new pads wear evenly.
