Description

Overview

The Power Stop Z36-679 front brake pads are Z36 Truck and Tow disc brake pads for 1997–2004 Ford F-150 and 2002 Lincoln Blackwood.

Designed for hauling loads, towing trailers and driving in hills, the Z36 compound has a friction coefficient 17 percent above original-equipment pads.

Key features

  • Carbon and ceramic friction formula
  • Thermal scorched finish
  • Chamfered and slotted like the OE pads
  • Powdercoated backing plate
  • Noise insulating shims
  • Hi-temp lubricant included
  • Direct fit with the stock caliper, front position

Hauling and hill braking

Heavy loads and trailers ask more of the front brakes than ordinary commuting does, because a large share of stopping force moves forward as the truck slows. Hill descents keep friction surfaces hot for longer, so pad material and rotor condition both matter. A compound built for these demands can keep response steadier, though it works best when the caliper, hoses and fluid are also sound.

Front pads wear faster on trucks that tow often, so inspect them more frequently than the standard service interval. Check the lining thickness, the condition of the backing plate and any heat discoloration on the rotor. Uneven wear between the left and right sides often points to a sticking caliper slide pin, which should be cleaned and lubricated before the new pads go in.

  • Inspect pads often on trucks that tow regularly
  • Look for heat discoloration or blue tint on rotors
  • Free-moving caliper slide pins prevent uneven wear
  • Replace rotors that show deep grooves or cracks

Questions & Answers

Which vehicles does the Power Stop Z36-679 fit?

The Z36-679 front pads fit 1997–2004 Ford F-150 and 2002 Lincoln Blackwood. Confirm fit for your vehicle's year, model and trim before ordering.

Is the Z36-679 a front or rear brake pad?

Front. The Z36-679 is a front-position pad that works with the stock caliper and is a direct-fit upgrade for the trucks it covers.

Does the Z36-679 come with shims and lubricant?

Yes. Power Stop lists noise insulating shims and hi-temp lubricant with the Z36-679. Brake rotors and calipers are separate parts that the Z36-679 pads do not replace.

Why replace the pads on both front wheels together?

Pads on both front wheels wear at similar rates, and replacing only one side can leave uneven friction and cause pulling under braking. Replacing both sides keeps stopping force balanced. Check the rotors on both sides at the same time too.

What lubricant should be used during installation?

Apply the included hi-temp lubricant only to the caliper slide pins and to the back of the pad where it contacts the caliper, keeping it off the friction surface. Clean old grease from the pins first so the pads move freely.
