Description

Overview

The Power Stop Z36-436 front brake pads are Z36 Truck and Tow disc brake pads for 1995–2002 Toyota 4Runner and 1995–2004 Toyota Tacoma.

Heavier trucks and SUVs ask more of their brakes, and this compound is built for owners who want more bite than stock pads give. The Z36 friction level is 17 percent higher than OE pads.

Key features

  • Carbon and ceramic friction formula
  • Thermal scorched finish
  • Chamfered and slotted like the OE pads
  • Powdercoated backing plate
  • Noise insulating shims
  • Hi-temp lubricant included
  • Direct fit with the stock caliper, front position

Choosing the right setup

A carbon and ceramic compound suits daily driving as well as trail trips. Friction stays steadier as the pad heats up, so brake pedal feel is more predictable on long descents. Pad choice works best when the rotors match: a rotor worn below its minimum thickness can cause vibration even with a good new pad installed.

Check the rotor surface and thickness each time the pads change, and replace any rotor that is scored, warped or below its minimum thickness. Keep the hardware clean and lubricated at the slide pins and abutment clips so the pads move freely and wear evenly. Shims and lubricant are included in the box and should be used as directed. Expect a short adjustment period as the new pad material transfers to the rotor, and avoid heavy braking until the pedal feels firm.

Questions & Answers

Which vehicles does the Power Stop Z36-436 fit?

The Z36-436 front pads fit 1995–2002 Toyota 4Runner and 1995–2004 Toyota Tacoma. Verify year, model and trim against this fitment before buying.

Is the Z36-436 a front or rear brake pad?

Front. The Z36-436 is a front-position pad made to fit the stock caliper without modification. It is a direct-fit upgrade for the front axle of the vehicles listed.

Is the Z36-436 designed for towing?

Yes, Power Stop designed the Z36 line, including the Z36-436, for drivers who haul loads, tow trailers or drive in the hills. The Z36-436 pads use a carbon and ceramic formula that Power Stop aims at high temperature brake fade.

Do carbon and ceramic pads need a different rotor?

Not usually. Carbon and ceramic pads are generally fitted to the same rotors as other pads, but the rotor must be within its minimum thickness and free of heavy scoring. Resurface or replace worn rotors before installing the new set.
