Description

Overview

The Power Stop Z36-1680 front brake pads are Z36 Truck and Tow disc brake pads for 2012–2018 Ford F-250 Super Duty and 2013–2018 Ford F-350 Super Duty.

The Z36 line is meant for trucks and SUVs that run at higher gross vehicle weights, such as rigs that tow or carry heavy loads. Compared with OE pads, Power Stop reports a 17 percent higher coefficient of friction for this compound.

Key features

  • Carbon and ceramic friction formula
  • Thermal scorched finish
  • Chamfered and slotted like the OE pads
  • Powdercoated backing plate
  • Noise insulating shims
  • Hi-temp lubricant included
  • Direct fit with the stock caliper, front position

Front axle job essentials

Heavy-duty Super Duty trucks put large braking loads on the front axle, especially when towing a loaded trailer down a grade. Front pads and rotors should be replaced as a matched set to keep braking even from side to side. Carbon and ceramic compounds handle sustained heat well, but they still need correct bedding.

Before fitting the pads, clean the caliper bracket and check the slide pins for corrosion. Lubricate contact points with the supplied hi-temp lubricant and confirm the noise insulating shims are in place. Inspect the rotor surface for heat spots, and replace it if it is below minimum thickness.

  • Replace both front wheels in the same service
  • Check the brake hoses for cracks or swelling
  • Road-test before heavy hauling resumes

Questions & Answers

Which vehicles does the Power Stop Z36-1680 fit?

The Z36-1680 front pads fit 2012-2018 Ford F-250 Super Duty and 2013-2018 Ford F-350 Super Duty, in the King Ranch, Lariat, Limited, Platinum, XL and XLT trims. Match your year, model and trim before ordering.

Is the Z36-1680 a front or rear brake pad?

Front. The Z36-1680 is a front-position pad that works with the stock caliper. It fits as a direct-fit upgrade, so the existing hardware is reused. Verify year, model and trim coverage before placing the order.

What are the Z36-1680 brake pads made of?

The Z36-1680 is made with a carbon and ceramic friction formula. It has a powdercoated backing plate, noise insulating shims, and a thermal scorched finish with chamfered, slotted faces like OE.

Can I replace only the rotors and keep the old pads?

Replacing rotors without new pads is possible if the old pads are in good condition and their friction surface is flat. New rotors usually need fresh pads to seat correctly. Inspect pad thickness and surface glazing before deciding, and bed in any new components with moderate stops.
