Description

Overview

The Power Stop Z36-1602 rear brake pads are Z36 Truck and Tow disc brake pads for 2012–2018 Ford F-150.

The Z36 line is built for drivers who haul loads, tow trailers or drive in the hills and want extra stopping power. The compound has a friction coefficient 17 percent above that of original-equipment pads.

Key features

  • Carbon and ceramic friction formula
  • Thermal scorched finish
  • Chamfered and slotted like the OE pads
  • Powdercoated backing plate
  • Noise insulating shims
  • Hi-temp lubricant included
  • Direct fit with the stock caliper, rear position

Rear pads on F-150 trucks

Rear brakes on a half-ton pickup carry more of the load when hauling cargo or pulling a trailer, and they absorb heat on long descents. A carbon and ceramic compound produces less dust than many metallic pads, which keeps rear wheels cleaner. Good rotor condition is just as important, since a warped rotor causes vibration whatever pad is installed.

Replace both rear pads at the same time, and check the rear calipers for smooth piston movement. Lubricate the slide pins with the supplied lubricant so the pads can float evenly. After installation, make several moderate stops before loading the truck so the friction surfaces seat properly.

  • Measure rotor thickness before installing new pads
  • Inspect rear brake lines for leaks or chafing
  • Keep the shims on the back of each pad

Questions & Answers

Which vehicles does the Power Stop Z36-1602 fit?

The Z36-1602 rear pads fit 2012-2018 Ford F-150 trucks in trims from XL and XLT up to Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Police Responder. Confirm your year, model and trim are covered before you buy.

Is the Z36-1602 a front or rear brake pad?

Rear. The Z36-1602 is set for the rear position and works with the stock caliper as a direct-fit upgrade. Installers keep the current caliper and bracket. Double-check your year, model and trim before placing the order.

Is the Z36-1602 meant for heavy trucks and SUVs?

Yes. Power Stop made the Z36 range for vehicles with higher gross vehicle weights, and the Z36-1602 belongs to that range. The Z36-1602 suits hill driving and loaded or towing use.

What wear signs point to rear pad replacement?

A squealing wear indicator, grinding noise or a pedal that feels softer than usual are common signs. Uneven pad thickness between the left and right rear wheels is another. Inspect the rotors when you check the pads, because a worn rotor can cause the same symptoms.
