Description

Overview

The G2 95-2033-1-301 is a forged driver side replacement rear axle shaft for the 1997–2006 Jeep Wrangler (TJ) with the Dana 44 option. It has a 30 spline end and an overall length of 29.25 inches.

G2 Axle and Gear says its shafts are engineered to withstand the added load of high torque applications and to remedy common faults found in factory shafts. The shafts are forged from high grade alloy steel and heat treated to exceed OEM specifications, which G2 says supports an extended service life.

The design includes big spline options, rolled splines and better materials. G2 says these let owners run larger tires with less risk of failure.

The shaft is listed with a 5 on 4.5 inch and a 5 on 5.5 inch bolt circle. Check that your hub matches one of those patterns before ordering. Wheel studs are not included, and the shaft needs 1/2 inch by 20 UNF wheel studs.

Key features

  • Forged alloy steel, heat treated
  • 30 spline shaft end
  • 29.25 inch overall length
  • Driver side position
  • 5 on 4.5 inch and 5 on 5.5 inch bolt circle
  • Rolled splines and big spline option, per G2

Signs of a worn axle shaft

An axle shaft carries engine torque to the wheel and takes repeated shock from the tire and terrain. Wear often shows up at the splines, the axle seal and the bearing area. Vibration under acceleration, a clunk when shifting between drive and coast, or grease on the inside of the wheel can all point to a shaft or seal that needs attention.

Larger tires and higher torque put more stress on the shaft, which is why upgraded shafts are often considered alongside larger wheels or a locker. Shaft replacement is also a good time to inspect the axle seal, the hub and the brake parts. Work carefully around the axle nut and wheel studs, and tighten the hardware to the correct torque when installing.

Questions & Answers

Will this shaft fit a 2000 Jeep Wrangler TJ?

Yes. The fitment data covers the 1997–2006 Jeep Wrangler (TJ) with the Dana 44 option, so a 2000 model is within the listed years. Confirm that your TJ has the Dana 44 option before ordering.

Does this shaft come with wheel studs?

No. Wheel studs are not included. The shaft needs 1/2 inch by 20 UNF wheel studs, so check your hub before ordering.

Is this shaft for the passenger side?

No. It is the driver side shaft, with a 30 spline end and a 29.25 inch overall length. Check the side before ordering, since the passenger side is a separate part.

Should the axle seal be replaced with the shaft?

Often yes, since the seal is easy to access during shaft replacement. A leaking seal can let differential fluid reach the brakes or the bearing. Inspect the seal and bearing surfaces while the shaft is out, and replace any part that shows leakage or wear.
