Description

Overview

The Flaming River FR20005SS is a six-position tilt steering column for classic Chevrolet and Ford vehicles, including 1948–1956 Chevrolet trucks, the 1964–1966 Chevrolet El Camino, the 1953 Ford F-100 and the 1948–1952 Ford F1. It replaces a worn original column and is built to fit the stock dash panel.

Flaming River says its tilt columns are made from all-new components, with two tubes so the column lines up with a factory dash. Floor-shift versions come with stainless steel tilt and turn signal levers, a hazard knob, a GM 4-1/4 wiring connector and a canceling cam. Automatic versions add a gearshift lever, an illuminated gearshift indicator, a removable 12 position linkage arm for easier alignment, and a neutral safety switch.

Installation notes

This column changes how the ignition is installed. The existing ignition switch has to be relocated to the dashboard, and a new lock and cylinder is required. Flaming River states that a column dash mount must be used to install the column, that a Flaming River steering shaft must be used with it, and that a 4-1/4 plug adapter kit is required to connect the ignition switch to the column.
